Tem’s thoughts about using this journal:
When I see straight lines across a page, I think of words I might put there, with a pen. My mind tries out a few expressions, and finally somehow my hand traces a path with the point of the pen which I hope to be intelligible to myself, or anyone else who comes to that page to see the trace I have made. The narrative form, the flow of words which are emitted in my imagination through my conscious day, is a reminder that what I do is visible to others, and it will be others who put what they see of my day into their own words, their own narrative.
It is easy to think that it is only the narrative that matters. That the many and varied visual images we encounter every day are meaningful, but mostly within the context of some overriding narrative, which sets the context for the meaning of the images. We understand what we see in terms of who we think we are, for example.
These notebooks come with another sort of lined page, as a start at elevating non-linear and visual information beside the standard linear narrative.
A notebook is a place for working things out. For being able to efficiently create an expression of ideas that are amorphous. Narrative is very helpful, but so is diagrams. So are checkerboard circles. So are quadrants and mind maps.
It is a journal, you will use it in a personal way. Print it yourself. A version that we can print for you and send you is in the works. Notebooks with general writing cues are in the works, as well as custom cues, which I would write for you after an interview and discussion about what you would like to accomplish with this notebook.
